The Best Time to Get Married in Turkey: Weather and Seasons, Region by Region

Follow the light, not the calendar.

There is no single best time to get married in Turkey, because Türkiye does not have one climate. On the Aegean coast (Bodrum, Urla, Çeşme) and the Mediterranean coast (Fethiye, Marmaris, Kalkan, Kaş), the strongest months are May and June, then September and October. July and August work, but they are hot, busy and priced at their peak, so ceremonies move late. Çeşme adds a design rule of its own: plan for the afternoon wind. If you want one month that works almost everywhere, choose September.

Most guides to Turkish weather give one national answer, usually "spring or autumn". That is true for a sightseeing holiday. For a wedding it is not specific enough, because a wedding happens at a particular hour, in a particular place, in front of guests in their best clothes. What matters is what the month does to that hour: the heat at four in the afternoon, the colour of the light at seven, the wind on the headland, the temperature when the dancing starts. This guide answers those questions region by region.

01There is no single answer, and here is why

Türkiye stretches across two seas and a high central plateau. In the same week, a garden ceremony on the Aegean can be warm and breezy, a terrace on the Mediterranean can be hot and still, a cave hotel in Cappadocia can be pleasant by day and properly cold at night, and Istanbul can be humid, wet or perfect depending on the month.

Three factors decide your window:

  1. Heat, especially in the late afternoon, when most ceremonies happen
  2. Wind, which varies more between regions than most couples expect
  3. Demand, because the best months are also the busiest and most expensive

A fourth factor is the calendar. Turkish public and religious holidays fill hotels with domestic travellers and can make venues and suppliers harder to book. Religious holidays move roughly eleven days earlier each year. In 2027, Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı) is expected in mid-May and Eid al-Fitr (Ramazan Bayramı) in early March. Check the exact dates before you fix yours.

02The Aegean coast: Bodrum, Urla and Çeşme

Best window: May and June, then September and October.

The Aegean is Türkiye's classic wedding coast. Summers are hot and dry, and the northerly summer wind, the meltemi, keeps many afternoons fresher than the temperature suggests, while also shaping what you can build outdoors.

Approximate average daytime highs in Bodrum: May about 24°C, June about 29°C, July and August about 33°C, September about 29°C, October about 24°C.

Bodrum is the easiest of the three to reach, with its own airport and the widest range of hotels, so it suits larger weddings in every month of the season. See our Bodrum wedding guide.

Urla, on the İzmir side, is vineyards and olive groves rather than beach clubs. It follows the same windows, and an autumn date around the harvest is especially beautiful. See our Urla wedding guide.

03Çeşme and Alaçatı: designing around the wind

Best window: May and June, then September and early October.

Çeşme and Alaçatı are fashionable, stylish and at their liveliest in July and August, but the shoulder months are better for a wedding, because the afternoon meltemi eases and the crowds thin. Alaçatı is known internationally as a windsurfing destination precisely because the wind is so reliable. For a wedding, that means:

Designed around the wind, Çeşme weddings are beautiful, and the breeze is a gift in high summer. Designed without it, they are a battle. See our Çeşme wedding guide.

04The Mediterranean coast: Fethiye, Marmaris, Kalkan and Kaş

Best window: May and June, then September and October, with a gentler, longer shoulder than the Aegean.

This stretch is warmer than the Aegean and usually calmer, with pine-backed bays, sheltered water and hillside towns above deep blue coves.

Approximate average daytime highs around Fethiye: April about 21°C, May about 26°C, June about 31°C, July and August about 34°C, September about 31°C, October about 26°C.

Fethiye and Göcek have the shortest airport transfer on this coast. Marmaris pairs pine-backed bays with a wide hotel base. Kalkan and Kaş are the most intimate, built for small weddings on terraces above the water. See our guides to Fethiye, Marmaris, Kalkan and Kaş.

05Beyond the coast: Cappadocia and Istanbul

We plan on the Aegean and Mediterranean coast, but couples often weigh these two as well, so here is the honest picture.

Cappadocia: altitude, cold evenings and the balloon caveat

Best window: May, June, September and early October. Cappadocia sits on the Anatolian plateau at roughly 1,000 to 1,300 metres. Days can be warm while nights are cool, even in summer, and April and October evenings are genuinely cold. Approximate average daytime highs: May about 21°C, July and August about 29°C, October about 18°C, with night-time temperatures much lower.

The balloon caveat. Cappadocia's hot-air balloons fly at sunrise, and only when the wind and weather allow. Flights are cancelled regularly, even in the best seasons. Plan balloon photographs as a bonus with more than one possible morning, never as the centrepiece of the day.

Istanbul: two shoulder windows, and why summer is not one

Best windows: May and June, then September and October. Summer is warm and often humid, with heavier traffic and higher hotel prices, and winter is cold and wet more often than not. Approximate average daytime highs: May about 21°C, July and August about 28 to 29°C, September about 25°C, October about 20°C. Whatever the month, traffic is Istanbul's hidden climate: plan guest transport and timing around it.

06What each month does to the light

This is the section no weather site writes, and the one that most shapes your photographs.

Türkiye keeps UTC+3 all year. Because the country no longer changes its clocks, summer sunsets in the west of the country come late. In Bodrum and on the Aegean, the sun sets around half past eight in the evening in late June, around a quarter past seven in mid-September and around twenty past six by late October. Istanbul is similar. Your ceremony time should follow the sunset, not the other way round.

Our rule of thumb: set the ceremony about an hour before sunset. The vows land in the last warm light, and portraits follow in the golden minutes before guests sit down to dinner.

07Wind, heat and rain: designing around the real conditions

Wind. Strongest and most reliable around Çeşme and Alaçatı, and on exposed headlands everywhere. Choose sheltered ceremony spots, weight installations, and brief your florist and stylist.

Heat. Most intense in July and August on the Mediterranean coast. Move the ceremony later, provide shade and cold water on arrival, offer fans or parasols, avoid heavy fabrics and plan menus that suit the temperature.

Rain. Summer on the coast is usually dry. Rain becomes more likely from mid to late October and in spring on the plateau and in Istanbul. Every outdoor plan needs a covered alternative that is genuinely beautiful, not a storage room.

Cold. The overlooked condition. Cappadocia evenings, Istanbul in spring and autumn, and coastal evenings in April and late October all need heaters, blankets and a note to guests to bring a layer.

08Why shoulder season wins three ways at once

Late April, May, late September and October win on three counts at the same time:

  1. Better light, softer and warmer, for more flattering photographs
  2. Better prices and terms, because demand drops outside the peak weeks
  3. Better availability, with more choice of venues, suppliers and dates

The weather is also kinder for guests, who are more comfortable, dance longer and remember the day for the right reasons. For a closer look at how the season changes the budget, see what a wedding in Turkey actually costs.

10The domestic wedding season, and why weekdays are worth a look

Turkish couples marry in large numbers too, and they favour the same months you do. From June to September, Friday and Saturday evenings are shared with local weddings as well as destination ones. That affects more than venues. The best bands, photographers, florists, hair and make-up artists and even marriage officers are booked by domestic weddings on those nights, often well over a year ahead.

Three ways to work with it rather than against it:

11How far ahead to book for each window

Families planning a halal celebration should also check prayer times and holiday dates for their month. See our guide to halal weddings in Turkey.

·Questions couples ask about timing

What is the best month to get married in Turkey? It depends on the region, but on both the Aegean coast (Bodrum, Urla, Çeşme) and the Mediterranean coast (Fethiye, Marmaris, Kalkan, Kaş), May, June, September and October are the strongest months. Cappadocia and Istanbul follow similar windows. September is the most reliable month across the whole country.

Is it too hot to get married in Turkey in July or August? On the coast, midday and afternoon heat in July and August is intense, particularly on the Mediterranean. Weddings still work, but the ceremony should move to early evening and guests need shade, water and cooling.

When is wedding season in Turkey? Broadly from May to October. Peak demand, and peak pricing, fall on Saturdays in June and September and throughout July and August on the coast.

What is the weather like in Turkey in September? Warm and settled on the coasts, with the sea at its warmest and the heat of high summer easing. Evenings are mild. September is our most requested wedding month for exactly these reasons.

Can we get married in Cappadocia in winter? Yes, for small, intimate weddings and photographs, but it is cold and snow is possible. Most celebrations with guests are better in May, June, September or early October.

Are hot-air balloons guaranteed in Cappadocia? No. Flights depend on the wind and weather and are cancelled regularly, even in good seasons. Plan balloon photographs as a bonus with backup mornings, never as the centrepiece of the day.

Is shoulder season cheaper for a wedding in Turkey? Usually. Late April, May, late September and October generally offer better availability and more flexible pricing than July and August, along with softer light and more comfortable temperatures.
